Meet the 2022 NAHC Board of Directors

The National Association for Home Care & Hospice has a new Board of Directors for 2022, featuring a new Board Chair, but the most important thing, a relentless committment to improving NAHC and making it a better advocate for providers of care in the home and their patients, has not changed at all.

“NAHC 2.0 is blessed with a very high level of interest and engagement in the NAHC Board, committees, and advisory councils,” said NAHC President William A. Dombi, who has worked closely with the Board to transform the association. “The 2022 Board is deep in talent and commitment. Congratulations to the 2022 officers, Ken Albert, Chair; Billy Simione, Treasurer; and Melissa Jeremiah, Secretary. A special thanks goes to Mary Myers, the Board Chair for the past three years, and to Brent Korte, the outgoing Secretary of the Board. The entire home care community can count on the continuing leadership and support from the NAHC Board in 2022.”

New Board Chair Kenneth Albert is the President and Chief Executive Officer for Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice in Maine. Prior to his appointment to those positions in June of 2016, Ken served as the Director and Chief Operating Office of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Director of the Division of Licensing and Regulatory Services within the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. Before joining the Department in March 2012, Ken practiced law for several years in Lewiston, Maine, specializing in health law, professional licensing, and regulatory and compliance law.

Ken was first elected to the hospice seat on the NAHC Board in 2019 and again in 2021. He chairs NAHC’s Public Policy Committee and the Hospice Advisory Committee.

“I am incredibly honored to have been elected Chairperson of the Board of Directors for NAHC,” Ken Albert told NAHC Report. “Serving on the Board for the last three years, my respect endures for the important work that NAHC achieves for its members and the patients and families that we all serve. As a  sector of the health care delivery continuum, home based health care continues to evolve as a vitally necessary service for millions of Americans. We are increasingly integral partners for our hospitals, medical practices, and health care facilities in the communities we serve. Medicare, Medicaid and other third-party payer beneficiaries – from birth to end of life – rely on the care we provide to achieve quality outcomes and enhance overall quality of life. I look forward to working with the talented NAHC team, your dedicated Board of Directors and all of our remarkable members as we navigate together the many changing dynamics of the health care delivery system in the United States.”

Ken’s background is rich in medical experience, including seventeen years of clinical practice in emergency and intensive care settings. In that time, Ken served as Director of Emergency Services at Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC), as the Administrator of the Occupational Health Center affiliated with CMMC, and as the Lewiston Site Manager for LifeFlight of Maine. Additionally, Ken spent five years as a traveling critical care nurse working in metropolitan, rural and tribal communities across the United States. He also served for several years as an adjunct faculty member at New England College where he taught Legal Issues in Health Care Administration.

Ken presently serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Maine College of Health Professions.

Call for Nominations to the NAHC Board of Directors

The National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) is calling for nominations of candidates for the three (3) open seats on the NAHC Board of Directors in this 2021 election cycle.  The three seats that are up for election this year represent members in the following sections:

  • Home Health
  • Hospice
  • Business Partner

NAHC is also soliciting recommendations for two appointed positions. These nominees can come from any section of NAHC membership. Candidates not selected for the election process will automatically be considered for appointment to the Board for the two appointed positions.

Terms of office are for three years, with a limit of two consecutive terms. Board eligibility is re-established after three years off the Board.

The nomination period begins Monday, August 9th and concludes Friday, August 20, 2021.

The nominations will be submitted electronically through the NAHC Election Candidate Nominations Portal. Please be prepared to submit a personal statement regarding the nominee’s expected contribution to NAHC governance, an updated/current Resume or CV, and a high-resolution Headshot.

The Board meets six times a year, with three in-person meetings and three virtual meetings.

The purpose of the combination of elected and appointed Board membership is to ensure that the Board has well-rounded talent and diversity to ensure the best service and that we are representative of the NAHC membership. Appointments are based on an evaluation of the elected board member qualifications. The appointments are intended to fill any gaps in needed skills and sector representation as well as to ensure a diverse and well-rounded board of directors. Appointments will be made by the 2021 Board members following a review of the election outcomes.

Throughout, the Board election process will be managed by the NAHC Governance and Nominating Committee charged with an ongoing role of achieving a high performing Board. The Committee will be responsible for cultivating and selecting Board candidates for election or consideration for an appointment. The Committee will also take steps to encourage highly-active participation and engagement of NAHC members in the Board elections and NAHC governance.

Election eligibility is based on two factors. First, the individual must be employed by a NAHC member in good standing. Second, the individual must be running for a Board seat that is consistent with their selected voting section in NAHC. Members designate the one voting section in which they will participate. If the member is eligible for more than one section, the member must select just one for voting and board qualification purposes.

The three elected Board positions up for election this year are as follows:

  1. Home Health – The Member operates as a Medicare or Medicaid participating home health agency.
  2. Hospice – The Member operates as a Medicare or Medicaid participating hospice.
  3. NAHC Business Partner Provides items or services that support the delivery of home care, home health, and/or hospice services by NAHC provider members.

The NAHC Governance and Nominating Committee invites all eligible individuals to consider participating as a member of the Board.  NAHC 2.0. was created to ensure we serve have a voice within our association.  It is an exciting time for the home care and hospice community as NAHC moves into a new generation as the leading voice for home care and hospice in Washington, D.C. There is a heightened energy around all the new opportunities that NAHC 2.0 brings, and those opportunities are best realized through a strong and vibrant Board of Directors.

Election results will be announced at the Opening General Session of the NAHC Annual Meeting by the Chair of the Governance and Nominating Committee.
