As readers have no doubt heard and read, the Republican plan, the American Health Care Act (AHCA), to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA) narrowly passed the House of Representatives today, Thursday, May 4, by a vote of 217 to 213 against. The legislation will now go to the United States Senate, where it faces an uncertain future. Any changes made by the Senate will then have to be worked out with the House before another vote can be taken on unified language. In other words, though the AHCA passed the House today, it has quite some way to go before it becomes law.
